High Speed Internet came to our community following a long search for funds, a provider and a way to deliver it to our homes. It came into being in December 2003 as a result of the Township of Pickle Lake “taking the bull by the horns” and making it happen.
Since we are so far away from other towns, we are often one of the last ones to receive the conveniences larger municipalities to the south of us take for granted. But not in this case! While some others are still struggling to be able to enjoy this modern day wonder, we have been successful in obtaining it.
The Municipal Office is in charge of all arrangements, invoicing and collection of fees for this service. Through the cable television company Shaw, an agreement has been made to deliver the service to homes. Through the services of K-Net, we are able to have them host our email and operate the technical equipment.
Those interested in having high speed internet should contact the Municipal Office. For those who want to use the internet, but do not have access to a home computer, you may find it convenient to use one of the Community Access Point computers that are set up in the Post Office or the Township Office. Future sites of CAP computers are yet to be determined.
Rates for the high speed internet are as follows:
$110.00 (plus taxes) for installation in your home
$120.00 (including taxes) for the purchase of a modem
$ 50.00 (plus GST) for residential monthly fees (billed quarterly)
$ 60.00 (plus GST) for commercial monthly fees (billed quarterly0
Invoices are sent out on a quarterly basis and if the previous quarter is not paid at the time of the invoicing the service will be disconnected. A re-connection fee of $50.00 must then be paid before the service will be resumed.
