In answer to the increasing fees the Ministry of Natural Resources were charging for camping on Crown Land, the Township of Pickle Lake undertook the challenge to obtain various camping sites along the north road.  To date the Township has been successful in operating the campsites at Badesdawa Lake (Mud Lake), Menako Lake, Mawley Lake and the Pipestone River.  All these sites are primitive and offer outdoor toilets and most of them have an upgraded boat launch. A small RV Park has also been set up along the beach of Pickle Lake. This Park has electrical hookups and a sewage disposal area.

Each site has their unique features.  However, the campgrounds have a steady stream of returning guests who have come for many years, in some cases.  Others find their way up the road for the first time and enjoy their stay also!

Camping fees are $3.00 a night per person and children under 12 stay for free.  In our RV Park there is a fee of $10.00 a night per vehicle.  Camping Permits may be purchased at Frontier Foods, K & K Tackle and the Township Office.

So we invite you to come to our beautiful area!  Plan to camp in our campgrounds and enjoy the relaxing days of fishing, reading a book,  socializing with other campers and just being lazy!

Hope to see you soon!

DISTANCES TO LAKES

All of these lakes are accessible by road.  While the blacktop ends at the Town of Pickle Lake, there is a good gravel road servicing the area.

Badesdawa (Mud) Lake - 25 miles/41 kms. north of Pickle Lake.  This lake has many good spots for fishing as well as access to an extensive river system.  Township camping permit required to stay here.

Menako Lake - 64 miles/105 kms. north of Pickle Lake.  This is a lovely series of shallow lakes with a number of nice beaches, as well as an excellent river system.  Township camping permit required to stay here.

Pipestone River Landing - 89 miles/147 kms. north of Pickle Lake.  This campsite is quite rugged but there are certainly many fishing and hunting spots as well as opportunities for navigating through the many rapids you will encounter on this river system.  Township camping permit required to stay on the mainland side, Crown camping permit for any of the islands.

Mawley Lake - 110 miles/165 kms. north of Pickle Lake.  This is a smaller lake but is also a popular place to camp.  Township camping permit required to stay here.

Otoskowin River - 30 miles/48 kms. north of Pickle Lake with a small campsite.  This is an excellent river with fast-moving water for canoe fishing with access to Badesdawa (Mud) Lake.

Lysander Lake - 50 miles/80 kms. north of Pickle Lake and has a small campsite.  The boat launch is only appropriate for small boats, but the fishing is good.

Stirland Lake - 120 miles/182 kms. north of Pickle Lake.  This small lake connects to the Pipestone River system.

Farmer Lake - 135 miles/197 km.s north of Pickle Lake.  Again, this is a rather small lake, but a very good hunting area.
