MUNICIPAL ADMINISTRATIVE INTERN

1 year Term

 

               

The successful candidate will be an  innovative problem solver and able to work with minimal supervision. This position requires good interpersonal and communication skills and competency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Completion of a post secondary certificate/diploma and a willingness to acquire an AMCT or CMO designation, is mandatory. Northern Ontario secondary graduate who are 29 years of age or younger who recently graduated from an accredited college or university.  Graduates from a high school outside of Northern Ontario who have resided in the North for at least one year are also elibible.  Mature graduates may be considered.  The incumbent must be bondable, possess a valid drivers license, provide own transportation and satisfactory criminal reference check.

      

The Intern will learn the Municipal Government level of involvement in Municipal Infrastructure, economics, daily municipal procedures, council, agenda meetings, etc.  In addition to providing direct assistance to the Clerk-Treasurer, job duties will involve lots of scope and diversity. This includes research, developing and compiling reports, accounting, budgeting, municipal taxes, and providing information to the public and clients.

Summer Employment Opportunity

Director of the Summer Recreation Program

 

The Director will plan and develop a program of organized and age appropriate summer recreational activities and events for July and August. Coordinate and develop a monthly activity calendar for Kindercamp and Youth Camp.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Director will create an information binder by the end of the summer containing the following: copies of all daily planning schedules, calendars, newsletters and posters that were circulated during the summer; report on the daily attendance, activities completed, and events hosted;  a evaluation of the program containing suggestions and advice for the following year;  plan and complete a minimum of 2 fund raising projects during the summer with the program participants i.e. (car wash, bake sale); submit a budget statement showing how much money was raised, spent, and a listing of items purchased;  plan and develop a program of organized and age appropriate summer recreational activities and events for July and August including games, crafts, walking/exploring, swimming and beach play on appropriate days, reading, physical activity, baking, and organized sports etc.

 

Qualifications:

Partial completion of  post secondary education either (University or College) in the areas of Education/Social Work/Early Childhood Education/ Recreational Management  or other relevant areas of study would be an asset,  as well as prior working experience with children of various ages and backgrounds;  excellent interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills; ability to develop age appropriate curriculum and programming for various ages of children;  good time management organizational skills;  must be 18 to 24 years of age; must have a current and valid certificate for CPR training; Criminal Record check completed and submitted before employment start date.

 

Duration:             Summer Position - June 28, 2010 to August 13, 2010

Hours:                  Monday to Friday - 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Rate of Pay:        $15.00 per hour, 36 hours per week

Housing Allowance: $250.00 per month
